Radiography Isotopes
Ytterbium 169
trefoil

Ytterbium 169 is used in applications where a high quality radiography is required and where the working thickness of steel is in the range of 4-15mm. It offers the added benefit of emitting low energy photons resulting in smaller controlled areas being required. It lends itself well to close proximity radiography.

Half Life: 32 days
Mode of decay: Gamma 63-308 keV (avg 145 keV)
Exposure Rate (1Ci at 1 metre): 0.125 mSv/hr
Optimum working thickness: 2mm to 10mm steel
