Windouts

The windout is the driving force of the radiography system and allows remote operation of the radioisotope, increasing the distance between the source and the operator and therefore lowering the radiographer’s radiation dose.

Viking windouts come in standard lengths of 5m, 10m and 15m. Again, this can be tailored to individual needs with any length being able to be manufactured. Dog-Leg windouts are also offered that give a greater standoff and shorter projection (or vice versa) allowing for an increase in cost effectiveness and a saving of weight.

The gearbox is robust in its construction and is consequently very strong and long lasting with the bearings in particular giving a smooth action and an unparalleled reliability. The exposure hoses are durable PVC wrapped stainless steel braided hose with a Steel helical cable running through the centre.

There are three choices of windout, the first is a pistol, hand held variety. A pistol windout is a good choice when traveling to site as it can be carried over the shoulder and is appreciably lighter than its caged counterpart. The pistol grip offers comfortable operation and the hose simply coils up for storage.

A Caged windout is the standard windout of choice. It is constructed from the same parts as a pistol windout but with a cage in the place of the handle. This cage gives a secure base to operate the windout from and again the standard lengths are 5m, 10m and 15m however when mounted to a cage the cables are coiled around its centres when not in use.
